About The Questionnaire

Houston Volunteer Lawyers helps thousands of individuals every year, but, unfortunately, is not able to find an attorney to help everyone. Therefore, we created this questionnaire to help us more quickly determine who we can help and who has legal issues better assisted by another agency.

By answering all the questions asked, you will be immediately directed to the option best able to help you. You may receive a call to set an appointment to speak with an attorney in the next available open slot each Friday. An HVL staff attorney may call you for further information. Or, you will be given contact information for other agencies that are better matched to meet your needs.

How We Can Help

  • Find you a volunteer attorney to take your case.

  • Schedule an appointment for you to talk to an attorney for free.

  • Provide self-help resources for you.

  • Refer you to other agencies when they are better able to help you.

What you need to do

You will need to answer some questions. We are a legal organization and your answers are confidential.

Who We Can Help

To be eligible for free legal services you must:

  • Reside in Harris County*,

  • Have a household income* at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines,

  • Have limited assets, and

  • Have a civil (non-criminal) legal matter.

*Some exceptions do apply.

We do not accept criminal, traffic, or any matter not listed here.
